Many houses were built in the past without a means of protecting your car, but it is not hard to do it yourself once you know how to build a garage.
The first step in any project of this scope is to understand what skills you need to know how to build a garage. Things like plumbing and wiring should be left to the professionals but you will be able to do the basic construction yourself. One thing is for sure though, you will be able to attach the wall protector yourself.
Then you need to get in touch with the council to make sure that your building meets standards and can get a permit. Before you start the build you will need to make sure that your plans have been approved by the local authority otherwise you might be breaching regulations. You can find out who to go to for this approval by speaking to local contractors or businesses.
You need to take the measurements of the ground where your garage will be placed. You need to make sure that you allow for at least 8 inches on the bottom so that gravel can be inserted before concrete is poured in. The footer is the next project and should be dug deep enough to be below the frost line in your climate. You can choose between a floating slap of concrete or multi-layered concrete blocks to go on top of the footer depending on your skills and preferences.
After a thin vapour has been placed between the floor and the wood you can attach your side walls to the concrete clocks of the wall or directly onto the floating slab. Learning how to build a garage also requires knowledge of reading the plans. You should also make sure that you leave space in the walls for the door and any windows you might want depending on your garage style.
You can get garages that are in a kit so all of the materials and instructions come together from your local hardware shop.
